By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 15: Build Up Nepal has been awarded the 2026 Zayed Sustainability Prize by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, at a special ceremony held in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) on Tuesday. The prize was awarded on the “Climate Action Category”.

A press statement issued by Embassy of Nepal, Abu Dhabi, said the Zayed Sustainability Prize is one of the United Arab Emirates’ most prestigious international awards.

Established in 2008 under the patronage of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the Prize recognises impactful sustainable solutions in health, food, energy, water, climate action and global high schools, the statement said.

It honours the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE whose vision championed sustainable development, humanitarian values, and global cooperation, the statement read.

Build Up Nepal was recognised for its innovative approach to sustainable construction through the production of low-carbon, earthquake-resilient eco-bricks. The organisation has produced 3.3 million eco-bricks, constructed more than 12,000 resilient homes, created 2,000 green jobs, and prevented 110,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

These eco-bricks significantly reduce construction costs while enhancing safety and resilience, particularly in earthquake-prone regions, including areas such as Jajarkot and West Rukum.

Tej Bahadur Chhetri, Ambassador of Nepal to the UAE, attended the award ceremony organised at the inauguration of the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Week.

Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi appreciated the dedicated efforts and valuable contributions of Build Up Nepal for its innovative approaches to sustainable development.

The award was received by Bjorn Soderberg, Managing Director of Build Up Nepal.
