President extends Maghe Sankranti greetings

  By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 15: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended heartfelt greetings to all Nepalis living home and abroad on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti and the Maghi Festival, 2026, wishing them happiness, peace and prosperity.

In a message issued on the occasion on Thursday, the President stated that Maghe Sankranti or Makar Sankranti is celebrated across Nepal by various ethnic communities in their own unique ways and with great enthusiasm. 

Stating that these festivals are valuable indigenous cultural heritage, President Paudel said they play an important role in introducing Nepal to the world.  He expressed confidence that the festival contributes to promoting ethnic harmony, respect for diversity and national unity in Nepal’s multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-cultural society, while strengthening fraternity, mutual goodwill and tolerance among Nepalis.

President Paudel expressed hope that Maghe Sankranti and Maghi would inspire everyone to preserve culture and contribute to building a civilised, cultured and egalitarian society.

Meanwhile, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has also wished all Nepalis living home and abroad the happiness, peace, prosperity, good health and continued progress.

Stating that different communities observe the festival under various names, he said its core spirit embodies unity in diversity and cultural pride.

The Vice President also said that the day is observed in Nepal as National Agrobiodiversity Day.
