By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec 10: Minister for Communication and Technology Jagadish Kharel has viewed that all need to work together to reduce the digitally induced violence.
Addressing an interaction programme on gender-based violence and the role of media, organized by the Sancharika Samuha Nepal (SASN), here today, Minister Kharel stressed that female journalists' carry dual responsibility - be safe oneself and guard their sector from digital violence.
He said, "I want to urge the female journalist that they perform dual responsibility. First, to be safe and to safeguard the arena. Therefore, our content, stories, and advocacies should center on curbing the digital violence."
The Minister highlighted that there is a need to organize the campaign against digital violence while mentioning that the nature and way of gender violence has changed today.
He said, "Even if you feel safe while being around the family, many contents that are shared on social media might make you feel unsafe. Therefore, it is mandatory to start the discussion around violence induced by the digital medium. Because technology has not brought just ease but fear as well, therefore, there is a need of substantial utilization."
Secretary of the Ministry Radhika Aryal said that violence induced through digital platforms has been surging lately; therefore, we all need to join hands to reduce it.
Chairperson of the Sancharika Samuha Nepal (SASN) Kamala Panthi said that there needs to be a strong role of media against digital based violence.
