By TRN Online, Triveni (Nawalparasi), Dec 5: The physical progress of the Narayanghat-Butwal road expansion project has reached 76 per cent.
Information Officer of the Project, Shiva Khanal, said that the construction of the road section has gained momentum in recent months, with a plan to complete the project in the given timeline. Recently, the road project has received its deadline extension for the fourth time. The last extended deadline will expire in July 2026.
According to him, work is currently underway in all the areas that remain to be worked on in the eastern section.
He said that blacktopping of Jayashree bridge in Gaindakot, Arunkhola bridge, Dumkibas bridge, and Chormara bridge remains incomplete, while blacktopping in other sites is over in the eastern section from Gaindakot to Daunne.
Blacktopping in other sites is over in the eastern section from Gaindakot to Daunne. Blacktopping is currently being carried out at a rapid pace in other areas as well, it is said. The bridges are not yet operational for vehicles as the connecting link roads remain incomplete.
He said that the work of constructing culverts and road slopes is underway to complete the work by March. "We have accelerated the work in Daunne, and the remaining fourteen percent of the project will be completed by March," said Information Officer Khanal.
The Narayanghat-Butwal road expansion project was signed on February 7, 2019, and completed by August 7, 2022, by China State Construction Corporation Pvt. Ltd.
The total 113 kilometers of the Narayangadh-Butwal road were divided into two sections, and work was progressed.
The deadline was extended for the second time until July 23 , 2024, after it again failed to be completed on time.
After the work was completed during this period as well, the deadline was extended for the third time in last July until July 24, 2025.
The work is now progressing after the deadline was extended for the fourth time.
The road expansion project, which is being carried out with the loan assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has a total cost of 16.99 billion for both sections.
Of the 113 kilometers of road, 70 kilometers will be four-lane, 29 kilometers will have four lanes and a six-meter service lane on both sides. A three-lane road will be constructed in the fourteen-kilometer area of Daunne.
