Narayangadh (Chitwan), Nov 29: The price of eggs has been readjusted so as to pay producers 'fairly'.
The Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers' Association on Friday decided to fix the new minimum support price for eggs, coming into effect immediately.
As the Association President Binod Pokharel said, a crate (30 pieces) of extra-large (XL) eggs now costs Rs 560; large eggs Rs 545; medium eggs Rs 530; and small eggs Rs 325 per crate. He added that the readjusted prices mark a noticeable rise of Rs 40 per crate compared to the previous rates.
The prices were increased considering the production costs, it is said. Similarly, measures are in place to control illegal imports of eggs into Nepal from India, supporting domestic production.
Likewise, the consumption of eggs normally increases during the winter season. All these conditions, including the price rise, are likely to benefit domestic producers, helping them recover the production cost, he added.
Last July, egg prices had reached up to Rs 560 per crate but had gradually decreased afterward. (RSS)
