Gen Z Front demands voting right based on National ID

blog

Kathmandu, Nov 7: Nepal Gen Z Front has urged the government to make arrangements for voting in the upcoming election, scheduled for March 5, 2026, based on the data available in the National ID system.

The Front stated that eligible voters who have already provided their biometric details for the National ID scheme should be allowed to vote by verifying their information directly at the polling centres. This, it said, would make the voting process more convenient for eligible voters and help prevent fraud.

In a press statement issued by Front Coordinator Raksha Bam on Friday, the organization called on the Election Commission and the government to ensure the voting rights of all eligible citizens in the upcoming election. The Election Commission has been collecting voter registrations in preparation for the March 5 election. According to Coordinator Bam, the requirement for citizens to visit district headquarters to submit their biometric details has discouraged many eligible voters from obtaining their voter ID cards.

The Election Commission has set November 16 as the deadline for voter registration. So far, only 136,000 new voters have been added to the list.(RSS)
