Govt starts printing of driving license from Security Printing Center

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Nov 7: The government has started to print the driving license from the Security Printing Center, an entity under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT).

CIT Minister Jagadish Kharel today inaugurated the printing of the licenses from the Center located at Banepa of Kavre by pressing the button of the printing machine.

On the occasion, Minister Kharel said that printing of the sensitive document such as license was initiated with essential arrangements despite legal hurdles and other similar difficulties.

"For years, machines of the Security Printing Center have been lying idle. Machine and related tools have gathered dust. The place looked deserted. We have started printing by dusting off," said Minister Kharel.

He viewed that printing of national identity card, passports, land ownership certificates, postal tickets and many others stickers could be printed from the Center although no printing work was done for long.

"After much efforts, we have initiated printing of license from here," said Minister Kharel, "We have to printing 2.8 million licenses and ensure good governance to the people and stop nation's money from going out for this reason."

"There was case in court and complaint in CIAA about this Center. Resolving anomalies of the Center and legal difficulties, we have brought forth rules and ensure necessary resources to start the printing of the license. Gradually, we will print all documents from here. This will stop nation's money from going out. This initiation is an important work in relation to national security and it needs continuity," said the Minister.

Devraj Dhungana, executive director of the Security Printing Center, said that printing was started from today as per the agreement to print 1.2 million license in the first phase.

The Center has said that in the beginning, 500 licenses will be printed daily and the number will be increased.

The government has invested a sum of three billion rupees so far in the Center.
