By Shivakumar Rijal (Kashi), Manahari (Makawanpur), Nov.7: The illegal cultivation of cannabis in the fields of remote villages of Makawanpur West has been destroyed.
According to the District Police Office, Makawanpur, a 102 member of police team deployed for three days (November 3 to 6)destroyed cannabis planted at various places in 30 bighas 10 khatta of land in the Raksirang rural municipality of Makawanpur District.
According to the District Police Office, Makawanpur, marijuana has been destroyed in Chisapani, Beltar, Temta, Goretar, and Debutar villages of Raksirang Rural Municipality.
Similarly, marijuana has been uprooted in Sathkanya, Khaireni and Joiti areas of Kailash rural municipality and Bhadaure, Jyarbu and other areas of Bhimphedi rural municipality.
Like in previous years, marijuana has been cultivated in villages including Kailash and Raksirang Rural Municipality in Makawanpur.
Makawanpur(West) is infamous for open plantation, transportation, and storage of cannabis. Cannabis or Marijuana is illegal in Nepal because of the Narcotics Control Act, which was passed back in 1976 AD (2033 BS).
Even though the police conduct a marijuana eradication campaign every year, marijuana cultivation continues due to a lack of sufficient manpower and time.
According to the people's representation, the production of Opium along with marijuana is rising in the remote areas of Makawanpur(West).
