By Shashidhar Parajuli, Biratnagar, Nov.7: Nine juvenile delinquents from the Biratnagar Juvenile Reform Center, who had escaped during the Gen Z movement, escaped again after
beating up security personnel on Thursday afternoon.
Of the nine at large, one returned to the juvenile reform center, while one was caught and handed over by the locals. The other seven are
still at large.
Juveniles made a group in line with the officers getting
clocked out of the duty and launched at duty officers and fled the reform home after
opening the gate.
According to the Chief of the Biratnagar Juvenile Reform Center, three on-duty officers have sustained injuries from the attack.
"Two delinquents have already come into contact. The search operation
for the other seven at large is underway. All seven are above 18 years of age," said Superintendent of Police (SP) Kabit Katwal of the District Police Office, Morang.
Officers working at the child reform home are unarmed, and
the number of child delinquents to be kept in the reform home reaches up to
27-which brings security incidents like this.
The number exceeds more than the capacity creating a management issue.
The 150-capacity juvenile correctional home in Biratnagar currently houses 260 people.
There have been several incidents of juvenile offenders escaping from juvenile correctional homes before.
