Birgunj (Parsa), Nov 6: Two hundred and twenty-nine electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 680 million 500 thousand have been imported through the Birgunj checkpoint in the first three months of the current fiscal year 2025/26.

Compared to the three months of the previous fiscal year, 2024/25, the import of electric vehicles has surged in the same period of the current fiscal year. In the three months of the previous fiscal year, only 97 electric jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 144.9 million were imported.

The increase in imports through this border has occurred due to the common people's attraction to electric vehicles and the poor condition of the roads from the Chinese border.

In the first three months of the current fiscal year, revenue of Rs 457.2 million has been collected from the import of electric jeeps, cars, and vans. Bishnu Prasad Gyawali, Chief Customs Administrator at the Birgunj Customs Office, also stated that there has been a significant increase in the import of electric vehicles recently.

During that period last fiscal year, only Rs 91.1million revenue was collected from the import of electric vehicles. In the first three months of the current fiscal year, 2,194 electric motorcycles valued at Rs 287.9 million have been imported.

While in the same period of the previous fiscal year, 1,481 electric motorcycles worth Rs 211.7 million were imported. (RSS)
