Home Secretary Dangal inspects Police Headquarters, issues directives

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Sept. 29: Newly transferred Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Rameshwar Dangal conducted an inspection of the Nepal Police Headquarters on Sunday and addressed both on-site and virtual police personnel.

Secretary Dangal was formally welcomed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandra Kuber Khapung, Additional IGPs, Deputy IGPs, and other senior police officials. He also paid tribute at the Martyrs Police Memorial by attending a wreath-laying ceremony.

During the programme, Secretary Dangal urged police officers and personnel to maintain high morale and remain undeterred in the face of complex situations. He commended public support in restoring police infrastructure and personnel displaced during the September 8 and 9 protests, emphasising that such cooperation reflects citizens’ trust in the Nepal Police.

Highlighting the upcoming festival season and elections, Dangal instructed the force to implement targeted security plans, strengthen internal security, and prevent criminal activities near border areas. He also reaffirmed the Home Ministry’s commitment to modernising and strengthening the police organisation through institutional development and technology integration.

On the occasion, IGP Khapung, in his remarks, highlighted Nepal Police’s continued dedication to citizen service and law enforcement within constitutional, legal, and human rights frameworks. He assured that the police would enhance professional capacity, handle emerging security challenges, and maintain public trust.

IGP Khapung also outlined ongoing initiatives to ensure evidence-based and scientific investigations, particularly targeting organised crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, cybercrime, arms smuggling, and economic offenses.

During the visit, DIG Deepak Regmi presented the institutional profile of Nepal Police, including organisational structure, workforce statistics, unit distribution, infrastructure, crime analysis, operational challenges, and future plans.

The programme included the presence of senior officials from the Home Ministry, police headquarters, seven provincial police offices, police units, training centers, traffic management offices, and district police offices, along with virtual participation from other units nationwide.
