BY Amar Raj Naharki,Tanahun, Sept. 28: The capacity of dialysis services at the GP Koirala National Respiratory Treatment Center, located in Shuklagandaki Municipality–5, Belchautara, Tanahun, has been expanded. With this expansion, kidney patients now have easier access to treatment.
Previously, only 15 patients per week were able to receive dialysis services. Now, with the introduction of two shifts, up to 30 patients per week can benefit from the facility.
Dr. Ram Kumar Shrestha, Executive Director of the center, said that with the new system in place, patients can now undergo dialysis twice a week. “Until now, only 15 patients could receive services in a single shift, but with the introduction of two shifts, 30 patients will now be able to receive treatment regularly,” he explained. According to him, if manpower and technical resources can be further strengthened, there is potential to expand the services to three shifts.
At present, the center has installed seven modern dialysis machines. The expansion was made possible through dialysis equipment donated by the Lions Club of Nepal and the continued efforts of Lions Clubs active in Shuklagandaki, said management committee member Trilochan Lamsal.
In the past, patients without local dialysis facilities were compelled to travel to Damauli Hospital or other locations for treatment. With the new service, kidney patients from Shuklagandaki and surrounding areas are expected to benefit directly. Having access to services close to home is believed to contribute not only to improved health outcomes but also to significant savings in both time and financial resources.
Currently, dialysis services are available in Tanahun at both the GP Koirala Center and the Provincial Hospital in Damauli. This has gradually reduced the compulsion of patients to travel to Kathmandu for treatment.
