By Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, Sept. 16: The Nepal-India Jamunaha border point has been fully reopened. After remaining closed for several days, the checkpoint resumed full operation from Monday.
Security officials from both countries confirmed that the crossing, which had been closed due to the Gen-Z movement and later operated partially, is now fully functional.
Ritu Raj, Inspector of India’s SSB stationed at Rupaidia, said on Monday that there were no longer any problems at the border.
He added that Nepali travelers had been allowed entry into India from the start, but now citizens of both countries are permitted to cross freely.
Previously, India had only allowed Nepali citizens in emergency situations—such as patients, ambulances, and other urgent cases—to enter its territory, while Indian nationals were not allowed to enter Nepal.
The Jamunaha Area Police Office also confirmed that the checkpoint has been fully operational after normalcy returned to daily life in Nepal.
Nepalis returning from India said that there are no issues with movement at present and that people are being allowed to cross smoothly upon verification of identity cards.
The border had been closed by Indian security personnel since last Wednesday, following protests by Gen-Z across Nepal under directives from the central authorities.
On the Nepali side, while their security forces had allowed Nepalis returning from India to enter, they had barred Indian nationals and vehicles from crossing over.
Earlier, on Tuesday afternoon, protesters had set fire to and vandalised the Jamunaha police checkpoint and the customs passenger branch, leaving them destroyed.
