BY ARJUN KAFLE,Syangja, Sept. 2: Arjunchaupari Rural Municipality-1 in Syangja has built a Mathematical and Botanical Park along the Gadyouli Khola, aiming to develop it as a learning hub for students across the country. At a time when many municipalities spend their budgets on towers and basic parks, Arjunchaupari has taken an innovative step by constructing the district's first-of-its-kind park, which is expected to gain national attention.

The project was developed under the Chief Minister’s Innovation Partnership Programme, with 70 per cent funding from the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Gandaki Province, and 30 per cent from the rural municipality. The park was completed in two phases: first, the Mathematical Park, then the Botanical Park, within two years.

Arjunchaupari Rural Municipality Chairman Prakash Tiwari said the park was designed to encourage experiential learning, which is often lacking in schools. “The aim is to provide a space where students from across Nepal can observe, explore, and learn practically,” he said. Spread across 170 ropanis of land, the park includes two gazebos (air houses), a Gadyouli-themed structure, an exercise park, CCTV surveillance, and installed lighting for safety and aesthetics.

The Gadyouli Khola has been stocked with native fish species, while various plants and trees have been planted to enrich the botanical section. Additional features include a riverside footpath, a garden bridge, a pi-gate structure, green turf, and 60 educational illustrations to support students’ learning.

Two small bridges have also been constructed to cross the river, and the entire park glows with electric lights at night. Local students have already started visiting the park, and parents are also coming to observe this new attraction. Built for Rs 15.14 million, the park is expected to become a unique symbol for the municipality. “We want Arjunchaupari to stand out at the national level, not just in education but also as a tourism destination,” said Ward Chairman Ranbahadur Thapa. He added that the rural municipality plans to promote the Gadyouli Khola and Panchakanya area as a tourism package along with the park.
