By Raju Lamichhane,Rukum (West), Aug. 25: Syarpu Lake, located across Ward Nos. 3 and 5 of Banfikot Rural Municipality in Rukum West are seeing a surge in domestic tourists this season.

Covering an area of 2.6 square kilometers, the lake fills up during the monsoon, making it even more attractive to tourists.

During holidays and festivals, dozens of visitors arrive to enjoy boating, sightseeing, and local fish delicacies.

According to local boat operator Daribhan Puri, around 100 domestic tourists visit the lake on holidays, while 20 to 30 arrive on normal days. On busy days, visitors must even wait in line to ride modern boats circling the lake.

Local intellectual Gopal KC said Syarpu Lake has been captivating visitors, comparing its beauty to that of a finely adorned bride.

He added that tourists often become enchanted by the mesmerising view of the Syarpu village.

Likewise, Manbir Oli of Sanibheri Rural Municipality informed that the flowing water from the lake resembles curd spilling out, making it a mesmerising sight.

According to the locals, the lake is particularly attractive during the rainy season, when its size and colour change noticeably.

From August to October, Syarpu Lake remains full and vibrant, while in winter it gradually shrinks but continues to look picturesque.

Locals also believe that bathing in the lake is beneficial to health, as it is fed by Himalayan streams.

The Division Forest Office under the Ministry of Tourism has fenced off the lake area, further enhancing its appeal. Syarpu Lake is now recognised as one of the major tourist destinations of the Karnali Province.
