BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Humla, Aug. 20: China has started paving the road on the Nepali side at the Hilsa border area. Earlier, in November, China completed the construction of the Miteri Bridge connecting the two countries.
Following the agreement, they have now begun paving the road from the bridge towards Nepal.
The Hilsa-Simkot Road Project, responsible for monitoring and coordinating the work, stated that the paving follows the previously agreed location, after earlier changes were proposed due to structural damage concerns. Necessary construction materials and equipment have been assembled at the site, and the work is expected to be completed in a few days.
The road paving is crucial for the operation of the newly constructed concrete bridge over the Karnali River, which has remained unused due to the incomplete road.
While some smaller roads in the district have been paved earlier, this is the first full-scale paved road in the area. Under the agreement, China will also upgrade and pave the 95-kilometre stretch from Hilsa to Simkot over three years, and a Chinese technical team has already surveyed the route in detail.
