Nepaljung, Aug. 7: The increase in the number of stray cattle in the market area of Nepalgunj has led to traffic obstructions on major roads.

Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City has initiated measures to gather and transport these animals to the animal holding centre.

A rise in accidents and road blockages has been observed due to the presence of these abandoned cattle roaming freely in the Nepalgunj market area, including main junctions such as Surkhet Road, Tribhuvan Chowk, Sadar Line, and Hospital Chowk.

Sharbat Bahadur Bogati, the City Police Chief and Police Inspector, mentioned that 55 stray animals were taken to the animal holding centre located in Birta, Ward No. 21.

He further stated that after receiving complaints from locals regarding a renewed increase in stray cattle in the market area, a search was conducted, resulting in the collection of 46 cows, oxen, and calves, as well as 9 horses, mules, and their young, which were transported to the animal holding centre.

Inspector Bogati explained that as the number of stray cattle increased, the risk of accidents also heightened, necessitating the gathering and transportation of the animals to the animal holding centre. Approximately a week earlier, around 90 stray animals had been sent there.

Stray animals from across various parts of the city were collected and collectively taken to the animal holding centre. According to Inspector Bogati, “Stray animals from areas between Traffic Chowk and Ranjha Chowk, including the market area, were rounded up and relocated.”

Deputy Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, Kamruddin Rai, also stated that due to the increase in road accidents and the difficulties faced by commuters caused by stray cattle, the city decided to implement this campaign.

Stray cattle have repeatedly caused traffic accidents throughout Nepalgunj, as their presence in the middle of roads disrupt the flow of traffic.
