Kathmandu, Aug 6: Nepali Congress (NC) general secretary, Biswo Prakash Sharma has empathized on making parliamentary functions and operation effective to enhance public trust to the parliament.
Delivering his remarks at the special hour of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Wednesday, he highlighted the need of reviewing entire functioning of the parliament.
As parliament is not only a place for forming government, law and budget but also a common platform to gain trust through actions and conducts, he said, adding, it is the shared responsibility of the government and the opposition to realize the essence.
"To what extent the parliament is successful; whether or not the government is effective; to what level the opposition parties are strong and responsible for inputs and pressure and to what degree we are successful in transforming the hope and trust of the citizens into a success", the general secretary noted.
He further said that some bills are still under consideration in the parliament for years; no remarkable progress has been made on law-making; misunderstanding ahs increased on some bills and some parties are continuing to boycott the House sessions.
Lawmaker Sharma reiterated to bring the guilty of the visit visa scam to justice. It may be noted that the High-Level Investigation Committee and the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) have been probing into the issue.
The NC general secretary recommended the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) to exercise restraint. He also drew the attention of the government to speed up the process of returning money up to Rs 500,000 to the cooperative survivors.
He also asked the Home Minster to immediately bring GB Rai to the country when his two partners are in the prison.
He urged the government to quickly advance the school education bill, arrange fertilizer for farmers, facilitate health insurance services, release Bipin Joshi, and effectively operate Bhairahawa and Pokhara airports.
Sharma emphasized the need for serious review before amending laws regarding the release of certain prisoners.
He congratulated the government on its success in discovering gas in Dailekh and demanded advance the process for its excavation.(RSS)
