By Radha Luitel, Phidim, July 28:  The Panchthar section of the Mechi Highway has been blocked due to flooding in the Henwa River triggered by incessant rainfall since Sunday afternoon.

The flooding in the Henwa River has damaged the diversion constructed there, affecting traffic and transportation.

District Police Office, Panchthar, DSP Kaushal Kumar Budhathoki said that because of the flooding in the Nawa River on the border of Panchthar and Dhankuta in the Tamor Corridor, the vehicular movement through the highway has been disrupted.

According to him, both roads have been blocked since midnight on Sunday.

The Hewa Khola Bridge on the Mechi Highway was washed away by floods on September 19, 2023.

The then-constructed Bailey Bridge was washed away on September 28, 2024, while the under-construction modular bridge built for the third time collapsed on June 14, and the river is now dependent on diversion.

However, a bridge has not been rebuilt across the Nawa River.

It has been raining continuously in the hilly districts, including Panchthar, since Sunday afternoon.
