HoR meeting: lawmakers ask government to bring relief package in Tarai-Madhes

Kathmandu, July 25: Lawmakers have drawn the attention of the government to announce relief programme immediately targeting the farmers of Tarai-Madhes districts.     

Farmers in Tarai-Madhes districts have been facing problems of drinking water as well as drought in lack of rainfall.     

Speaking in today's meeting of the House of Representatives, they demanded the government to provide facilities including concession on electricity fair to farmers.     

On the occasion, Janardan Sharma of the CPN (Maoist Centre) asked the government to give discount on fair of the electricity, used for irrigation purpose.     

Similarly, Ram Prakash Chaudhary of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal through the Speaker drew the attention of the government to immediately announce relief and subsidy package for the farmers affected from drought in Tarai-Madhes districts.     

Likewise, Yogendra Mandal and Prakash Adhikari stressed the need of introducing a special relief package in crisis-hit areas, saying impacts of climate change are increasing continuously.     

Mentioning that paddy planted by farmers has started drying up due to drought, Sanjay Kumar Gautam urged the government to identify all drought areas and provide relief to farmers of these areas.     

Purna Bahadur Gharti Magar argued that problems have surfaced in operation of vehicles, saying most of the road sections in Rukum district are damaged in rainy season.     

Similarly, Bhagawati Chaudhary raised question in the parliament that consumers have been using ground water without examining it whether it is suitable to drink or not while Chandra Bahadur Bishwokarma demanded the government to make arrangement of free treatment to the people injured in road accidents.     

Likewise, the Rastriya Swatantra Party reiterated the demand of high-level judicial commission or parliamentary probe committee on visit visa scam.     

Binita Kadayat argued that there has been growing interest on this issue not only within Nepal but also in the international community.     

Dr Dhawal Shumsher JB Rana expressed the belief that there would be fair investigation and verdict on Tinkune incident occurred on March 28.(RSS)
