Henan (China), July 25: Deputy-Speaker Indira Rana has said Nepal needs immediate international solidarity to ensure climate justice.
Addressing a programme organised by Sanghai Cooperation Forum at Henan Province of China on Friday, Deputy-Speaker Rana echoed need for international solidarity to ensure climate justice for Nepal, which has been facing direct impacts of climate change.
On the occasion, she mentioned, "Mountains are losing snow cover. Citizens of mountainous and rural areas have been affected directly from the impact of climate change. We need international solidarity immediately to lessen such impacts, to promote green energy and to ensure climate justice", adding that Nepal as a mountainous country is in the forefront of climate crisis.
The Deputy-Speaker opined that though Nepal has not invited this crisis, it is determined to be the party of the solution.
She expressed the view that platforms like Sanghai Cooperation Forum would be effective as the challenges we are facing today like climate change, inequality and regional tension, cannot be addressed by a country alone.
"Nepal has been working to uplift the people from poverty by protecting environment. Sustainable, balanced and impartial development could only strengthen economy", she argued.
Stating that Nepal embarked on a long journey from conflict to peace, Deputy-Speaker Rana mentioned that Nepal has always been giving priority to collaboration rather than competition.
Nepal has been closely working with China and other neighbouring countries to build infrastructures, to strengthen trade relations as well as people-to-people relations, she shared, expressing shared commitment towards peace and progress through strong and historic relations based on mutual respect and cooperation with China.
