Chandrapur (Rautahat), July 24: Three farmers have died of electrocution while irrigating fields in Rautahat in a week. On Wednesday alone, two farmers were electrocuted in their fields.
On Wednesday morning, Rambabu Mukhiya, 40, son of Tulsi Mukhiya, a resident of Madhav Narayan-4, Bishanpurwa, died of electrocution while using an electric motor to irrigate his field, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Area Police Office, Garuda, Rajan Karki. Mukhiya died during treatment at the Provincial Hospital, Gaur.
Similarly, Moktar Dewan, 52, son of Lal Mohammad Dewan of Jamuniya Tol, Kataharia-2, also died of electrocution while irrigating his field. Police have stated that Dewan, who was injured by the electric shock, died during treatment at Grande Hospital in Garuda.
Earlier, on June 27, Narendra Patel alias Golu, the 14-year-old son of Sudhan Raut of Sonarnia, Maulapur-8, also died of electric shock while watering his fields.
This year, due to lack of sufficient rainfall and subsequent drought in the Tarai, farmers are forced to pump out ground water using electric motors for transplanting paddy and irrigating their fields. (RSS)
