Inmates shifted after jail entry gate collapsed

By Navin Raj Kuinkel, Lamjung, July 19: Jailbirds have been shifted to other districts after the entry gate of Lamjung District Prison at Beshisahar collapsed.  

Last Wednesday, around 5:00 PM, the only gate to the west of the prison that allowed prisoners to enter was broken.

Chief District Officer Madhav Prasad Pokharel said that all the prisoners have been transferred to Tanahun and Kaski district prisons.

According to CDO Pokharel, 108 prisoners, including 30 in Tanahun and 78 in Kaski Prison, have been shifted.

The Nepal Police and Armed Police Force teams have taken the transferred prisoners to their destinations in four buses and a microbus.

According to prison administrator Beni Bahadur Moktan, about 3 meters of the wall has collapsed.

Although the prison has a capacity of 35 people, including 10 women and 25 men, the district jail has three times more prisoners and detainees.

This prison, built when the district headquarters were moved from Kunchha to Besisahar in 2028 BS, has yet to be fully renovated.
