Labour permit within two minutes, over 800 thousand labour permit issued in a year

Kathmandu, July 19: In the last fiscal year, 839 thousand people got labour permit for foreign job. The Department of Foreign Employment shared the information that out of the total, 744 were male and others the female.

The Department organized a news conference and made public such information on Friday. Director General Kamal Prasad Bhattarai informed that of the total labour permit, 60 percent are new and 39 percent issued for the second or third time.  

Major labour destinations of Nepali workers are- UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Malaysia, Romania, Japan, South Korea and Bahrain.   

Similarly, other countries for labour are Malta, Serbia, Mauritius, Japan, Croatia, and Maldives.

In the last five years, over 3.5 million Nepalis took permit for foreign employment. Most of them, 3.1 million, are male. 

Similarly, the number of companies facilitating those aspiring for foreign jobs has reached 1,687. However, those accredited by the Department for active service are 724. Total 212 companies had their renewal by the end of the last fiscal year. 

Director General Bhattarai informed that labour permit is issued on the very day the application is filed. Digitalization has eased the service. Other reforms are going on, he added. 

Bhattarai further argued for the last one and half month, the labour permit was issued within two minutes of submission of application. Two-thirds of the plan to manage some 36,000 documents was accomplished under the investigation and complaints section in a bid to ensure service seekers-friendly facility.

Monitoring system is strengthened to systematize health checkup of the foreign jobs aspirants, according to him. Even a technical study was going on to upgrade foreign employment information system. (RSS)
