By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 9: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Ramshapath, has recovered and handed over 22 stolen two-wheeled vehicles -- comprising 12 scooters and 10 motorcycles-- to their rightful owners.
The vehicles had been stolen from various locations across the Kathmandu Valley on different dates.
In a formal ceremony held at the Traffic Police Office on Sunday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navaraj Adhikari handed over the recovered vehicles to their respective owners on Sunday. The recovery was based on reports and complaints filed by the victims at the Traffic Police Office.
According to Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson for the Office Dipak Giri, the stolen vehicles were discovered in areas including Hattisar, Bouddha, Jambudanda, Sukedhara, Gokarneshwor, Kapan, Mudkhu, Swyambhu, Imadole, Lubhu, Gatthaghar and Balkot.
Some of the recovered vehicles had genuine license plates, while others had been fitted with fake registration numbers in an attempt to evade detection, said SP Giri.
With Sunday’s handover, the Traffic Police have returned a total of 467 stolen two-wheelers to their rightful owners, from mid-July 2024 to the first week of June 2025. During the same period, 66 individuals allegedly involved in vehicle theft were apprehended and handed over to various metropolitan and local police units for further legal action. Among the recovered two-wheelers, 44 were confirmed to be stolen.
Recipients expressed their happiness and publicly thanked the Traffic Police for their dedicated efforts and timely response. According to official data, the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police recovered and returned 499 stolen two-wheelers in fiscal year 2022/23, 417 in fiscal year 2023/24, and 467 in the current fiscal year 2024/25.
