By Tilachan Pande, Tamghas, May 14: Malika Rural Municipality of Gulmi has decided to discharge 56 employees appointed in violation of federal and provincial law.

The employees to be dismissed are 26 teachers, 14 child facilitators, nine related to health services, one computer operator and seven assistant computer.

Devi Ram Aryal, Chairman of the Malika Rural Municipality, informed that a meeting of the executive of the rural municipality held on 6 May took a decision to terminate the appointment of the employees as the office of the auditor general has repeatedly mentioned pay and perks paid to them as arrears. They were employed by previous local government.

He claimed that the rural municipality was simply implementing the section 8 of the Local Service Act 2081 of Lumbini Province Government. "We do not have any political motif behind it. We have decided to abide by law."

However, Shobhakhar Giri, chairman of ward 6 of the municipality who also worked as spokesperson in the previous local government, blamed that the decision to terminate employees was taken on political basis.

Earlier, Kaligandaki Rural Municipality of the district, had dismissed appointment of teachers appointed by the rural municipality and the schools because the auditor general had time again mentioned the salary given to teachers as arrears.
