Kathmandu, May 2: The government has planned to make active the transitional justice mechanism.
Unveiling the government policies and programmes for the next fiscal year in the joint session of the House today, President Ram Chandra Paudel said the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission for Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons will be made active to bring the transitional justice to a logical conclusion.
Similarly, the sixth National Action Plan on Human Rights will be enforced to ensure continuity in respect, preservation and observance of human rights, Paudel shared.
The structural reforms of judicial service will be undertaken to enhance increased access of citizens' justice by making the judicial system prompt, agile, transparent and reliable. Free legal aid will be made more effective to ensure access of the poor and vulnerable to justice, and the criminal laws amended to make them victim-friendly, according to the policies and programmes.
For the effective implementation of federalism, necessary laws will be revised and formulated, the President said, adding that the formulation and reform of laws will be made research-oriented by continuous and regular study of the laws formulated and enacted by all three tiers of government.
Legal Information Management System will be developed for disseminating legal information to the general public. The capacity of the human resources involved in the field of law and justice will be enhanced including in the areas of legal drafting, international treaties and agreements, and dispute resolution.
The government is for conducting the Digital Attorney Programme to improve services and develop professionalism of government attorneys in the coming fiscal year. (RSS)
