Patan (Lalitpur), April 12: Nepali Congress (NC) central member Uday Shumser JB Rana has said media in Nepal are more independent, impartial and effective than other countries in South Asia.
Inaugurating the Seventh General Convention of the Nepal Journalists' Forum in Lalitpur today, leader Rana, who is also the House of Representatives (HoR) member, said Nepali media do their roles as watchdog in society.
General Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Ram Prasad Dahal, pledged that the FNJ would always remain proactive for the causes of journalists.
Deputy General Manager of Public Service Broadcasting, Arati Chataut, urged the State to be responsible for ensuring safety to the journalists.
Forum Chair Yubaraj Bidrohi urged journalists to depoliticize themselves.
On the occasion, senior journalist Chataut and Ramkala Khadka of Annapurna Post, were honoured with the Pratap Memorial Journalism Award.
Similarly, Gauri Narayan Shrestha Madhyanha Prize was presented to Santosh Mishra, editor of the chandrasuryabani.com, and the Najir Uddip Memorial Journalism Award was presented to Chetan Raj Sapkota.
Likewise, photo journalist Ghana Shyam Shrestha received the Dr Chuda Bahadur Shresta Memorial Journalism Award while television journalist Tanka Kala Timalsina was honoured with the Ballabh Bhandari Memorial Award.(RSS)
