‘Power sharing not an issue to appoint NRB Governor’

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 9: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has refuted allegation that the government has failed to appoint Nepal Rastra Bank Governor in time due to differences in power sharing between the ruling parties. 

"The delay in the appointment of the Governor is not due to political power sharing as the committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel is working on it, which may have taken some time,” said Minister Gurung, while making the Cabinet decisions public at the Ministry on Tuesday.

The appointment of the Governor does not affect whether Nepal will be included in the ‘grey list’ or not of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). We have appointed an acting Governor to carry out day-to-day work of the Nepal Rastra Bank, and she has already begun working, said Minister Gurung. 

On Tuesday only, the meeting of the Asset Recovery and Prevention Committee held at the Ministry of Finance in Singha Durbar has also decided to finalise the action plan to remove Nepal from the grey list, and implement it. 

Meanwhile, the Cabinet meeting held on April 7 took several decisions including, expressing deep sorrow and offer condolences on the death of senior journalist Bhairab Risal, who died on Sunday at the age of 97. 

The government has decided to scrap Nagarik App. (Operation and Management) Rules-2021 and issued new Directive-2025.  

The meeting has also approved the visit of Minister Gurung to Tokyo, Japan, to take part in the Asia Pacific Tele-community Ministerial Meeting from May 29 to 31, 2025 and the visit of Minister for Education and Science Technology Bidhya Bhattarai to London to take part in the Education World Forum meeting to be held from 

May 18 to 21. The government has appointed Mohan Kumar Tamang of Lalitpur as executive director of the Bauddhanath Area Development Committee.

Likewise, the government has decided to allow 665.97 cubic feet timber to Guthi Sansthan for the purpose of making a chariot of Rato Machhindranath and Minnath, which is 48-foot in height and decided to waive off revenue for cutting down the tree 

required for it. 

The Cabinet meeting also approved the resignation of the Joint Secretary (Technical) of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Rajendra Prasad Sharma and promoted one Colonel to the post of Brigadier General of the Nepali Army, one Brigadier to the post of Major General and endorsed foreign visit of 

one Major General. 

Similarly, the government has given approval to Energy Secretary Suresh Acharya to take part in the two-day 18th South Asia Power Secretaries Roundtable (PSRT) programme that began in Thimphu, Bhutan from April 8.

The government has further decided to form a negotiation team led by Director General of the Department of Customs to hold DG-level bilateral talks between two DGs of Nepal and India in Kathmandu from April 10 to 11.
