Kathmandu, April 6: Speaker of House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire has said that social justice, inclusiveness and peaceful transformation that Nepal obtained in the recent decades are exemplary ones in the world.

In his address to the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Speaker Ghimire said that Nepal has made a successful transition to the federal democratic republic by ending the unitary form of governance after resolving its political conflict through a unique peace deal.

Ghimire stated that Nepal's constitution has fully guaranteed social justice, equality and inclusion adding that gender and ethnic inclusion has been guaranteed through constitutional provision from the top policy making levels to the vital posts of the State, Speaker's Secretariat shared.

Likewise, Speaker Ghimire presented the parliament as a crucial indicator of social transformation.

Similarly, Speaker Ghimire observed that international cooperation could be deepened and the major bottlenecks of social progress including poverty, conflict and climate change could be tackled through parliamentary democracy.

On the occasion, he termed the climate change impact as the most pressing challenge of Nepal at present adding that hundreds of thousand citizens' lives were impacted due to the natural disasters.

He also recalled Nepal's role played to expand international cooperation for climate justice, green energy promotion and climate resilience policies.

The Speaker also informed the IPU about the Sagarmatha Sambaad being organized in Nepal on 16-18 May and hoped that the event would sensitize the issues of climate change impacts in the mountainous region.(RSS)
