By Our Correspondent,Humla, Apr. 6: Construction of a Bailey bridge has begun over the Karnali River in Dojam in Kharpunath Rural Municipality, part of the Humla road-section of the Karnali Corridor.
As Simkot, the district headquarters, remains the only one in the country yet to be connected by road, the bridge is being constructed to connect Simkot by mid-July.
Amrit Parajuli, Project Head and Commander of the Nepali Army construction team said that the construction work on the new Bailey bridge over Karnali River in Dojam, Kharpunath Rural Municipality–5 of Humla district has commenced.
He mentioned that although construction was scheduled to begin from 7th April, work started two days earlier to complete it on time.
Currently, the army’s technical team is surveying the bridge construction site.
The army has also started collecting stones, sand and gravel for the foundation of the Bailey bridge. From April 7, excavation for the bridge foundation will begin, along with other construction activities, he added.
The bridge will be 52-meter long. The government has entrusted the army with completing the construction and handing it over to the Department of Roads by mid-July. Commander Parajuli assured that the army is working to complete the project on time.
To manage the technical aspects and ensure security for the bridge construction, 40 army personnel have set up camp at Kharpu.
