By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aprl.1: Borja Golán, a distinguished name in the world of squash, has arrived in Nepal. Formerly ranked fifth in the World Squash Rankings, Borja Golán has come to Nepal to train Nepali players.
The Nepal Squash and Rackets Association hosted an event to welcome the renowned Level Three coach from Spain, on Monday.
The Spanish legend will be training Nepali squash players for a week. Golán, who retired from professional squash in 2023, is now focused on coaching. He founded the Golán Squash Academy, which aims to nurture young talents. Nepali squash player Amrit Thapa Magar is currently training at this academy.
The Spanish squash star, who holds 17 national titles in Spain and two European Individual Championship wins expressed his enthusiasm for Nepal, saying that he aims to inspire Nepali squash players. "I have been a coach for the last two to three years, and my visit to Nepal is not only about teaching but also an opportunity for me to learn a lot," Golán stated.
Golan also has won 33 titles on the PSA World Tour and led Spain's national team in various international competitions.
President of the Nepal Squash and Rackets Association, Dhruba Bahadur Gurung, said Golán's training would be a major boost for the players. He urged Golán's academy to arrange a squash tour for Nepali players to compete with European-level players.
