71% of issued National ID remain uncollected in Humla

blog

By Rajan Rawat,Humla, Mar. 25:Despite being issued, 71 per cent of national identity cards remain uncollected at the District Administration Office (DAO) in Humla.

These identity cards, which have been prepared over the past two to three years, are gathering dust in the office storage because the respective recipients have not collected them.

The DAO has urged the concerned individuals to collect their identity cards at the earliest possible.

Chief District Officer Narayan Pandey said that from October 13, 2020, to November 16, 2022, a total of 2,674 individuals registered for their national identity cards. However, only 758 people have collected their cards so far, leaving 1,916 cards still remain unclaimed in office storage. This accounts for 71.17 per cent of the issued cards that remain uncollected.

Pandey has urged all individuals whose national identity cards have been issued to visit the registration section of the DAO with their citizenship certificate or acknowledgment receipt to collect their cards.

Since the introduction of the national identity card registration system, 5,377 individuals in the district have applied for the nation identity cards. However, the preparation and issuance of the cards typically take one to two years, leading to a lack of urgency among recipients to collect them. As a result, many people do not prioritise collecting their cards, as most of the time their identity card numbers alone are sufficient for verification in some cases.

The DAO has reiterated its call for all individuals with pending identity cards to collect them at the earliest.
