Patan (Lalitpur), March 12: Sister city relations have been established between Lalitpur and Ulan-Ude City of Russia.
At a program held in Ulan-Ude City of Russia, Mayor of Lalitpur Chiribabu Maharjan and Ulan-Ude City Mayor Igor Shutenkov signed a memorandum of understanding on sister city relations.
Mayor Maharjan said that the establishment of sister city relations will strengthen the relations between the citizens of both countries. "This relationship between the two cities has opened up many possibilities, as relations will be established at the citizen level as per the need and understanding," he said.
Mayor Maharjan said he would work to strengthen mutual relations and meetings between the two cities, along with running joint projects.
Stating that the country of Buddha has brought a message to the people of Russia from Nepal, Mayor Maharjan invited the Mayor of Ulan-Ude Igor Shutenkov to visit Nepal.
Mayor Shutenkov said that this sisterly relationship has added a new dimension to the relations between Nepal and Russia and expressed commitment to work for the development of the two cities.
The MoU mentions cooperation in road construction and upgrading, public transport management, tourism, education and health, preservation of historical heritage, establishment of galleries and museums, and study and research in the field of information technology.
The Nepali delegation led by Maharjan includes Chief Administrative Officer Rekhadas Shrestha, Coordinator of the Industry, Tourism and Culture Committee and Chair of Ward No. 5 Bikasman Shrestha, and International affairs Advisor to the Metropolis Mukunda Bista. The delegation had left for Russia on Saturday.(RSS)
