By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 4: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba assured that justice will be ensured regarding the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal in KIIT University in Odisha, India.
Minister Rana and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak met Prakriti’s parents and relatives in Bhairahawa today to express their condolences following her death.
According to MoFA, Minister Rana assured Prakriti's family that she was actively pursuing diplomatic efforts since the incident to uncover the truth about her death and ensure strict legal action against the perpetrators. She emphasized that justice would be brought to her.
Minister Rana informed that she had spoken to Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi last week regarding Prakriti's death and the developments that followed.
She also mentioned that, immediately after the incident, she had contacted the Education Minister in Odisha to urge a thorough investigation into the matter and to ensure proper safety measures for Nepali students studying there.
"I have asked the Indian government to take legal action against those responsible through diplomatic channels, and I am closely following up on the matter. The government is committed to this cause, and Home Minister Lekhak and I will leave no stone unturned in securing justice for Prakriti," She said.
Minister Rana also conveyed that Odisha's Chief Minister has taken the incident seriously and has formed a high-level investigative committee at the state level to ensure justice for Prakriti and accountability for those responsible.
She further mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi are coordinating closely with the Odisha government, university administration, and Indian security officials to support the investigation.
Prakriti, a student at the university, was found dead on February 16. In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately began diplomatic efforts, particularly in response to concerns over the safety of Nepali students in India.
