Buffon happy to arrive in Nepal

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 3: Gianluigi Buffon, the world-renowned goalkeeper who led Italy to victory in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, arrived in Nepal on Sunday. He has been invited as the chief guest for the ongoing KP Oli Cup football tournament in Kathmandu.

Buffon landed at Tribhuvan International Airport on Sunday via Turkish Airlines and was welcomed by officials from the National Youth Union of Nepal, the organizers of the KP Oli Cup. 

The legendary Italian footballer expressed his joy, stating that his dream of visiting Nepal had come true. During a press conference held the same day, Buffon thanked the organizers for allowing him to experience Nepal. 

"I am very excited and happy to be in Nepal. My dream of visiting this beautiful country has been fulfilled. Many thanks to the organizers for this opportunity. Today has been an unforgettable day for me and my wife,” he said. “Nepal feels so beautiful. I am looking forward to the final of the KP Oli Cup."

Buffon is one of the biggest names in world football to visit Nepal. He played in five consecutive World Cups from 1998 to 2014 and has represented Italy in 176 international matches, captaining the team in 80 of those appearances. 

Buffon will attend the final match between defending champions Machhindra FC and Tribhuvan Army FC at Dasharath Stadium on Monday evening, with kick-off set for 6 PM. He mentioned that he is eager to see the final match. 

The former Italian goalkeeper also expressed a desire to return to Nepal to explore more of the country. He emphasized the importance of increased investment to be able to play on big events, such as the Asian Cup and the World Cup.
