Betting means placing money or goods on the chance of winning a chosen event. People are getting more attracted to betting, no matter their past, present, or future. Online betting sites are becoming more popular and so tempting that people don't even realise they are putting themselves at risk.
One of the main reasons online betting sites are gaining more popularity is that students and young people are becoming increasingly digital. People nowadays enjoy online games more, and with the widespread availability of the internet, its misuse has also increased. Many people have become addicted to online platforms and spend long hours playing online games.
Betting is spreading fast, not just in other countries but also in Nepal. Many people want to make a lot of money quickly without working hard. Because of this, online betting sites are in high demand, and their influence is increasing. The growing attraction toward betting has provided foreign companies that operate online betting platforms a way to accumulate wealth.
However, instead of focusing on strengthening key economic sectors like agriculture, trade, and tourism, many young people are diverting their attention toward online betting, making them less productive and skilled. Even though people may have obtained a master's degree or received a good education in school, failing to apply practical knowledge and instead engaging in online betting is a huge mistake. Surprisingly, many people involved in online betting come from educated backgrounds.
Falling into the trap of gambling can damage not only one's future but also that of one's family, making it an inhumane act. It is shameful for a responsible citizen, a student with great potential, or a future society leader to engage in online betting sites. Just like other addictions, people are now getting trapped in online betting.
People of all ages, especially the youth, are becoming victims of these sites. These betting sites also harm people's mental health. The stress of whether they will win or lose makes them anxious. Being greedy and chasing quick money can badly affect a person's future.
Also, using banned betting sites illegally is against the ethics of a responsible citizen. Many save their lunch money and invest it in betting through brokers. They follow their friends and get influenced, which makes them easy victims.
Following others blindly or engaging in such unethical activities, knowingly or unknowingly, can lead to stress and even mental illness. The greed to make a large amount of money at once often results in significant financial loss, pushing some individuals to attempt suicide.
Therefore, individuals must think wisely before getting involved. Losing large sums of money in such activities can destroy a person's life, bring misery to their family, and impact the nation. Parents must take responsibility for stopping illegal online betting and protecting their children. They should make sure their children do not get involved in such activities.
The government should also make stricter laws and enforce them to control online betting and stop its adverse effects. Avoiding online betting is vital because it can harm our future. Staying away from it and helping others do the same is the duty of a responsible and ethical citizen.
