Tansen, Feb 27: The 43rd Magar Day has been observed with much fanfare in Palpa district on Thursday.
The indigenous Magar community prepared special dishes, performed dances and did merriment, celebrating the festival.
Varieties of cuisines like batuk, chukaune, gherkin, sel roti, and chicken and pork dishes were prepared and relished.
Khagishwor Magar from Kailashnagar of Tansen said she was elated to be donned in ethnic costumes. "The ethnic costumes is identify of Magar community. We must not jettison it," she reminded, underlining the need for preserving culture.
Anisha Ale from Mathagadhi, who was also in ethnic outfits, shared similar view of protecting and promoting culture by celebrating the festivals with fanfare.
A programme organized here featured pageant, songs and dances. "The Magar people have celebrated the Magar Unity Day with joy and fun. Every village and hamlet with domination of Magar people had the aura," said Bishnu Gagamagar from Baganaskali rural municipality.
They exchanged greetings on this occasion.
The United Magar Upliftment Society has also conducted special functions on this occasion. The Society's 17th Anniversary also coincided with the Day. All 10 local levels of Ramgha rural municipality organized the cultural programmes.
The local levels had given public holiday to observe the Magar Unity Day. The schools and public offices remained closed.
The Magar people performed kaura, maruni, jhyaure and salaijo dances.
More than 54 percent population in Palpa district is of Magar people as per latest census.
The Magar population stands over 2.3 million as per the 2021 census, which is 6.9 percent of the total population.(RSS)
