MAHA duo refutes misleading rumours about them

blog

by Santosh Subedi,Kaski, Feb. 21: Veteran comedian duo Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya have refuted unnecessary and misleading rumours spread against them on social media.

Shrestha and Acharya jointly released a video to clarify the matter.

Some individuals have widely propagated on social media that they created a programme opposing Sanatan Dharma. In response, Shrestha and Acharya clarified that they produced awareness-generating programmes funded by USAID.

Shrestha said, “It is disheartening to hear the rumour that the Maha Jodi used USAID’s funds to spread anti-religious propaganda. We consider everyone our well-wishers, so it hurts to hear such accusations from them. There are both good and bad things in the world, and we have always chosen to work on positive matters. For example, raising awareness about leprosy, tuberculosis, and vaccinations is not against religion.” He urged people to watch the telefilms available on YouTube if they had any doubts.

Acharya emphasised that USAID’s funding was not used to oppose any religion.

He further added that programmes such as Haribahadur Madanbahadur, Aama, and Asal Logne were created as awareness campaigns with USAID’s support.

“Our programmes are available on YouTube like open books, people can watch them. Claiming that we opposed Sanatan Dharma is a baseless allegation. We will not be influenced by such false claims and request everyone not to believe these misleading rumours,” he added.

He also added that a comedy programme from the year 1995 humorously depicted a priest character in the episode Shraddhe during the Panchayat era. “Just because someone is called a pandit does not make them divine. Satire can be directed at anyone. Taking one small part and labelling it as anti-Sanatan is purely imaginary,” said Acharya.
