Water flow of Humla Karnali river decreases

blog

Humla Correspondent, Humla, Feb.13: The water level in the Karnali River flowing through Humla has been drooping.

The water level in Karnali River is decreasing in line with the less snowfall in the winter season this year.

Sub-engineer of Simkot Rural Municipality Dan Bahadur Rawal, said that the water level in the Karnali river has decreased this year compared to last year.

He said that the level of water in the river flowing in Upper Humla, especially in Simkot, Namkha Rural Municipality, has decreased significantly.

Size has started to look smaller due to the drying up of water in the river. Now, people can swim directly in river even in places where river have taken a wide form.

Rawal said that even though no significant change has been observed in water flow in Karnali River flowing in the territory towards Nepal, the river flowing in China has turned into a small river.

Jwala Raj Shahi, the Chief of the Drinking Water, Irrigation and Energy Development Office, said that it is natural for water level in rivers to decrease as snowfall decreases significantly on the mountains due to the change in weather and escalating mercury.

He said that the main reason for the decrease in water level in river is because there is no source of water as the previously snow-covered mountains are now seen in black rocks showing that snow in the mountains has decreased.

At this time, not only the mountains but also the headquarters of Simkot should be covered with snow, instead of snow it has started raining, which has added to the concern.
