Kathmandu, July 14: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh has said that work on formulating a national human settlement development policy has been taken forward to establish human settlements systematically.
During a question-and-answer session concerning his Ministry in Monday's meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister Singh said that investment will be expanded on a priority basis in all 753 local levels for systematic human settlement development.
Responding to a question from MP Prem Suwal, he said that the Ministry of Urban Development has been assigned the responsibility of constructing the infrastructure of the landfill site at Bancharedanda for the long-term management of waste in the Kathmandu Valley. “Furthermore, the infrastructure required for integrated waste management, including the landfill site, has been constructed in Dhangadhi, Shuklaphanta, Godavari, Birgunj and Nepalgunj.”
He informed the house that the Intensive Urban Development Program has been launched to implement the periodic plans of the municipalities.
Deputy Prime Minister Singh, the Government of Nepal, launched the Safe Citizen Housing Program through the budget statement of the fiscal year 2075/76 with the objective of bringing households with straw or thatched roofs under galvanised sheet roofs.
In response to a question from MP Surya Prasad Dhakal, Minister Singh informed that the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction has prepared the entire design, including soil testing, architectural, and structural, for the construction of the city hall in Kohalpur Municipality.
