By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 10: Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel on Sunday visited the burn ward at Kirtipur Hospital to assess the treatment of burn patients.
Following the government’s decision to provide free treatment for economically disadvantaged burn victims, the hospital has been offering its services accordingly.
While observing the condition of patients injured in a fire at a restaurant in Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu-28, Minister Paudel listened to their concerns.
During an interaction with hospital officials, he urged them to ensure that free treatment is given only to those in genuine need.
“We introduced this free treatment arrangement to ensure no burn patient is deprived of medical care due to financial difficulties. Please make sure the facility is used appropriately,” Minister Paudel stated.
He further acknowledged the hospital’s challenges in treating burn patients and listened to patient grievances.
Emphasising the rising cases of burn injuries, he called for improved treatment, greater accessibility, and collaboration among stakeholders to promote awareness and prevention.
“We are committed to exploring all possible options to provide effective treatment for burn victims,” Minister Paudel said.
The Ministry of Health has allocated Rs. 200 million through Kirtipur Municipality to cover the cost of treatment for financially poor patients.
Additionally, burn patients with economic hardships are receiving free care at the government-run Bir Hospital’s burn ward.
According to the minister’s secretariat, the Chaudhary Group has pledged support for an 18-bed hospital building at Kirtipur Hospital.
Last week, Minister Paudel met with a delegation, including Chaudhary Group’s director and MP Binod Chaudhary, as well as burn victim and MP Chandra Bhandari.
The secretariat further stated that the project, estimated to cost Rs 1.8 billion, will move forward after the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the coming days.
