By Our Correspondent,Jajarkot, Feb.1 : The Khalanga Small Farmers Agricultural Cooperative of Jajarkot has established a honey processing industry for the first time.

The cooperative has brought the honey processing industry into operation in collaboration with Helvetas Nepal under the InElam project.

Chairman of the Cooperative, Yogmaya Karki, said that farmers have benefited from the operation of the honey processing industry.

She said that they brought the honey processing industry into operation to facilitate the marketing of farmers' products and maintain the purity of honey and uniformity in its prices.

The honey processing industry was registered in the Industry and Consumer Interest Protection Office, Jajarkot, on September 10 last year.

Karki said that the industry, which was operated with a permit from the Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Surkhet, has started work on honey labelling, packaging and other activities.

It is believed that the honey processing industry will create employment for local women.

She said that the cooperative has been distributing modern hives and other equipment and conducting entrepreneurial training on artificial hive construction to beekeeper farmers in coordination and collaboration with the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernisation Project and Helvetas Nepal.

The industry, which is currently selling honey at Rs. 1,200 per kilogram, has processed and sold 12 quintals of honey since October last year.
