Kathmandu, Jan.21: 78 per cent of the vehicles have failed the vehicle pollution test being conducted by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City in the Kathmandu Valley.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City's spokesperson Naveen Manandhar said that of the 40 vehicles running in diesel that was tested at Sukedhara along the ring road in Kathmandu on Monday, 31 of them that is 78 per cent failed to meet the standard in the pollution test conducted by KMC on Monday.
Likewise, 33 of the total 40 vehicles tested in Teku, Kathmandu on January 19 failed to meet the standard.
So far, 160 vehicles including 140 diesel and 20 petrol vehicles have been tested in the vehicle pollution test that kicked off since January 13, 2025.
Of these, 94 diesel-powered vehicles and six petrol-powered vehicles failed the test.
According to the metropolis, the vehicles that are out of standard in the test conducted in this way are to be repaired, then re-tested, and can operate only when meet the standard.
In order to reduce and control the pollutants emitted by vehicles as part of efforts to control air pollution, the Department of Environment Management of the Kathmandu Metropolis is conducting on-site checks in collaboration with the Department of Environment under the government of Nepal, the Valley Traffic Police Office and the Metropolitan Police Force.
