Case filed against two NEA employees for assaulting ex-Chief Minister Thapa

By Our Correspondent,Birtamod, Jan. 21: A case has been filed against two employees who punched former Chief Minister and Nepali Congress Koshi Province President Uddhav Thapa in Surunga of Kankai Municipality-2, Jhapa. 

 Thapa, leader of the NC’s Provincial Assembly parliamentary party, was attacked in Juke Culvert in Kankai Municipality-2 on Saturday evening. 

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for the Area Police Office, Birtamod, Prakash Bista said a case under indecent behaviour was filed against Prithvi Shrestha, 42, of Kankai-3, and Bhakta Bahadur Katwal, 49, of Shivasatakshi-11, with the court after obtaining a three-day remand. 

Former CM and Congress leader Thapa was beaten up while he was returning from the annual general meeting including a picnic organised by the Nepal Press Union, Jhapa, in Domukha. 

Thapa, a resident of Arjundhara- 7, who was returning home in vehicle number Ba 1 Jha 653, was beaten up by employees of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Surunga, who came in vehicle number Ba 1 Jha 1870. 

Thapa was injured in the attack. His left eye was swollen. He was admitted to Birta City Hospital for treatment. It is said that an argument broke out when the vehicle carrying Thapa overtook the vehicle carrying the Electricity Authority’s employees on the diversion near the Surunga Bridge. 

The vehicle of the Authority and both the arrested persons have been kept at the Area Police Office, Birtamod. 

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress Central Office Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel has issued a statement demanding strict action against those who assaulted former Chief Minister Thapa.
