Kathmandu, Jan 20: An agreement has been reached to conduct the election to the Tribhuvan University (TU) Free Students' Union on coming March 18 (Chaitra 5).

A meeting of the Student Welfare Council held under the leadership of Tribhuvan University's Rector Dr Khadga KC today took the decision, informed Council's member-secretary Pashupati Adhikari.

Earlier, the TU educational calendar had stipulated Free Students' Union election for Falgun 15 or February 27.

Dr KC, who is also the director of the Directorate of Student Welfare and Sports, said the decision to hold the FSU election was taken at the time of the previous term as there would be legal complications.

"The current working committee has a two-year term. It will complete the two years tenure on March 15," he said, adding, "The TU executive council was recommended to hold the election on the same date as that of the last one so that there is no legal hurdle." Earlier, the FSU elections were held on 5 Chaitra 2079. The FSU elections, held every two years, have not been held regularly since 2065 BS.

The elections will be held in 62 constituent and 1,040 affiliate campuses of TU across the country. There is a provision of 28-year age limit and mixed electoral system for the FSU.(RSS)
