By Sujan Kafle, Charikot, Jan.20: Now and then it can be heard that people representatives are in a haste to use government services given to the post as per the rules. However, 58-year-old Krishna Prasad Phuyal, ward chair-6 of Tamakoshi Rural Municipality, Dolakha, is among an exception who has returned his service motorbike and has been riding his horse for official commute and work.
He has been doing various social work in the service of the citizens along with development as soon as he got elected as ward chair. He rides his horse, visits people door to door to listen to their problems, and on top of it all he has returned the motorcycle given by the government saying that he is elected to deliver service.
Phuyal, who won from the Nepali Congress in the last local-level elections, returned the motorcycle and bought a horse for 105, 000 rupees.
He goes to the office on a horse every day, while the other elected ward chair comes to the office on a motorcycle. He handed over the motorcycle given by the municipality for office work.
The Tamakoshi rural municipality provided motorcycles to the ward chairs of all the wards of the municipality to facilitate their work.
Ward President Phuyal said it is not necessary to use the property of rural municipality to deliver service to people by going door to door as he was elected for the development of people and thus returned the motorbike.
He said, "I would rather invest the expenses listed in my post by the municipality in the development of the ward. It is difficult to take a motorcycle everywhere in the village even though the roads are there. It has become easy to meet all people even those who live uphill and in places where there is no road by riding a horse."
Even though riding a horse is environmentally friendly, it is not easy and cheap nowadays. He said that he rides horses to keep up the tradition.
“Some people can experience back and neck pain due to body imbalance while riding a horse. I don't feel uncomfortable because I have ridden a horse before," he said.
