Bajura, Jan. 14: Rana Bahadur Bohara of Siradi in Budhinanda Municipality-3, located in the north-eastern region of Bajura district, has been making a good income from vegetable farming.
He has been cultivating vegetables, including cauliflower, radish, cabbage, chilli, tomato, cucumber, pumpkin, potato, beans, okra, bitter gourd, mustard, garlic, onion, coriander and ginger taking one hectare of land on rent in the village.
Bohara, who used to work in India for a long time to support his family, has recently come to the village and started cultivating various types of vegetables, and has started earning a good income.
“I went to many places for jobs but couldn't find anything that suited my needs. And I have started vegetable farming taking a plot of land on rent. Now, Rs. 500,000 is being saved annually from farming,” said Bohara
He said, “I have planted many types of vegetables, including cauliflower, cabbage, tomato, onion, pumpkin and chilli. Traders come to my farm to buy vegetables. I do not have to take them to other markets for sale. Customers come to my farm themselves and buy vegetables. Due to this I am now earning a good income from vegetables.”
He said that there is a lack of irrigation for farming and bringing water from far away cost a lot of money.
He asked the concerned bodies to arrange irrigation facilities which eases him and other farmers in cultivating seasonal and off-season vegetables in the village.
Vegetable farming has now made it much easier for him, who once struggled to meet household expenses, let alone educate their children.
After starting vegetable farming, he has now been able to provide higher education to his one son and two daughters.
After starting vegetable farming, the Agricultural Knowledge Centre, Bajura has provided him assistance of nearly Rs. 200,000.
