Koshi’s longest suspension bridge built in six months

By Our Correspondent,Damak, Jan. 11: A development project in Jhapa has been completed and inaugurated before the deadline. 

A suspension bridge over the Timai River connecting Ward Nos.  6 and 7 of Buddhashanti Rural Municipality in Jhapa was completed 18 months before the construction deadline and was inaugurated on Thursday. 

Construction of the 476-metre bridge was to be completed in two years on June 6, 2026. But it was built in six months for Rs. 59.8 million.

Bishwo Prakash Sharma, the lawmaker elected from Jhapa Constituency No. 1 and the general secretary of the Nepali Congress, inaugurated the longest suspension bridge in Koshi Province. It is believed to be the third-longest suspension bridge in Nepal. 

Sharma laid the foundation stone of the suspension bridge built over the Timai River connecting Ward Nos.  6 and 7 of Buddhashanti Rural Municipality in Jhapa on July 8, 2024.

 The bridge is christened as Kolbung Gowda Ramite Gowda Suspension Bridge. 

 Buddhashanti Rural Municipality Chairman Manoj Prasai and others were present at the bridge inauguration ceremony.

The longest suspension bridge in Koshi Province has been attracting crowds of domestic and foreign tourists even before its inauguration.

 Thani Jagadamba JV signed the contract to build the bridge on June 6, 2024, with a completion deadline of June 6, 2026.
