Madhyabindu (Nawalparasi), Jan 6 : This year potato farming has been expanded in additional 11 hectares of land in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East).
Potato farming has been extended to an additional 11 hectares in the district this year with the farmers being
increasingly attracted to its cultivation lately.
Kul Prasad Tiwari, chief of
Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Nawalpur said potato has been cultivated in 3,216
hectares of land in the district this year. "Potato was cultivated in
3,205 hectares last year, which has been expanded in 11 hectares this
year," he said, adding that 58,413 metric tons of potatoes were produced
in the district last year.
He said that the district has
become self-sufficient in potatoes with the rise in potato farming area and
production every year.
According to the data, the number
of commercial potato farmers in the district has increased every year.
"Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) has been self-reliant in terms of
potato production," he said. ”
Information Officer at Agriculture
Knowledge Centre, Nawalpur, Bishwas Kafle said this year cultivation has been
expanded in 11 hectares of land through the community level processing potato
promotion programme run by the Gandaki province government.
According to preliminary estimates,
potato production will increase this year. Potato cultivation is expanding as
the local level governmentsare running potato farming promotion programmes
along with the Agricultural Knowledge Center.
"The Agriculture Knowledge
Centre has launched a community-level processing potato promotion programme in
Madhyabindu and Kawasoti municipalities and Hupsekot rural municipalities to increase
production by further encouraging potato farmers in the district," he
